Nostalgia Will Be the Death of Me

My love could not make you stay;

Or is it that

I could not make you stay?

Either way,

You are gone

And nostalgia will be the death of me.

And they say with desire

Arrives a fire–

One that at first excites,

Delights,

But finally consumes.

I wanted our flames to burn

Equally as brightly

Or perhaps yours brighter–

But now you are gone

And nostalgia will be the death of me.

Nostalgia:

The longing for what once was,

What could have been;

The embers of the fire still quietly,

Discreetly

Burning.

Nostalgia:

The way my heart felt

When your smile lit up the room

And lit my insides

 Ablaze.

And isn’t it ironic

That we require

A new fire to be started

In order to

Extinguish the flames of the past?

So it burns, burns,

Burns–

You burn, burn, burn.

And Nostalgia will be the death of me.
